#6 - What we do & how we do it!

Hello hello hello, and welcome to blog post number #6 of the HUH blogs. For today's blog, I will be talking about what we do here at HUH, how we do it and ultimately why we do it! I do realise that we briefly explain it on our website and throughout our social media platforms but let's do it again just incase you missed it.

What do we do?

At HUH Clothing we sell clothing and accessories in order to raise awareness surrounding the importance of mental health! Currently we are selling Hoodies (our most popular item), t-shirts and mugs all branded with either "HUH" or "How's Ur Head?". These items are sold through our website, Facebook and Instagram and you can also find links back to our website on all of our social media platforms. We have plans to keep extending our product range as we progress and grow over time and we would love to hear any suggestions you may have. So please, get in touch with us!

After every sale we make and ship out we donate a percentage of each sale to local and international mental health organisations. To date for example, we have donated to Pieta House, Aware, Samaritans, Mental health America and Mental health Wisconsin (Depending on where the purchase comes from, that is how we decide where to donate). Just to name a few.

How we do it?

The whole process is quite transparent and easy in terms of how we work. As mentioned, for every sale we donate money to mental health organisations. However, to make things easier for ourselves we wait until we have accumulated enough sales and revenue in order to donate a reasonable number all at once. Understandably, it would not make sense to donate in smaller increments after every single sale so we usually give it a month or two and make the donations all at once in one transaction. During slower periods of sales and less donations, in the passed I have taken on fundraisers. Just as recently as July 2020 I took part in a 140 mile fundraiser for Pieta house. This fundraiser involved me completing 140 miles in 7 days for this charity and we raised over €550. For more information about this, check out our blog post about it all!

Why we do it?

There are so many reasons to say why we do this and each one is just as good as the next. from a personal perspective, the topic of mental health is very important and it means a lot to me as an individual. Unfortunately, in the modern society from every corner of the globe there seems to be a negative stigma hanging over the topic of mental health. This stigma needs to go!!!! By starting this and promoting the HUH brand the goal is to hopefully make talking about and taking care of your mental health normal and casual. There should be absolutely no stigma and remember, it is okay not to feel okay. We want to normalise mental health conversations between friends, family and in the workplace without people feeling ashamed, embarrassed or afraid to speak up and ask for help. Unfortunately, suicides due to depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder and order mental health related illnesses have been increasing throughout our societies and communities. We have all been effected by it be it a family member, a friend, cousin, team mate, friend of a friend or co-worker and we need to start taking action. Let's be there and let's try to create environments to help people in need - It is so important to realise that you don't need to have all the answers for somebody, you just need to be there and be willing to listen!

We also do what we do in order to help raise funds for charities and organisations that provide incredible services to people in need. Donating to these charities gives them the freedom to offer more intensive services and gives them the opportunity to provide a more resourceful service. Some of these organisations include:

Pieta house: https://www.pieta.ie/ Free phone - 1800 24 72 47

Aware: https://www.aware.ie/  Free phone - 1800 80 48 48

Samaritans: https://www.samaritans.org/ireland/samaritans-ireland/ Free phone -116-123

As always, please take care and look after each other. Keep an eye out for friends and family members who may be struggling throughout these uncertain and testing times. Remember, YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON AND EVERYONE LOVES YOU!
